May be it’s just me, or the way I sleep, or just may be I need to change my bed.
It has always been like this ever since I came of age.
Parents wake you up forcefully at early hours of the day to enjoin you on a compulsory prayer session; we call it morning devotions.
You stagger from your bed to the living room like one who just finished a crate of vodka. I only imagine how God sees us pray in the morning. I am sure He will be laughing and taking notes.
Unable to decide whether to run back to bed or just pray in my mind as the rest of the family sing the default and well arranged devotion songs.
It all sounds like gibberish to me for the first few minute I found a seat. But, with a thunderous slap on any vulnerable part of my body, I wake up with a charge to lead an entire congregation.
Serving God in Nigeria is not an option. Missing morning devotions in my family could not be properly planned even if you were a secret agent of FBI.
Still numb about how and what to feel at those moment. A lot of feelings and emotions begin to travel across my body.
Anger, because I didn’t get enough sleep and also because of the way I was woken up. Confusion, because I don’t know why I left that perfect dream land where I had all I imagined and why I was back to this zoo called Nigeria. Happiness, because I am still alive at least. Sadness, because really I don’t know what to feel.
So either mum had prepared something nice for that morning to eat or she had a better reason to release all her energy in that slap earlier. I was just going to smile away my wake-up feelings and head out to the shower.
This same feeling never gets old. Even during the day when I take a little nap. I wake up with higher level of intelligence (so to speak), my mind opens up to the seven wonders of the world. Like Dr strange, I become the world most powerful psych for a short while. The moment I greet someone or engage in a little conversation with someone, the whole intelligence goes like that invisible carbon dioxide you just released.
It is as if this part of the world highest intelligence doesn’t match the intelligence I was bringing from dream land.
Damn! It sure surpasses human reasoning and form. But what can I do?
