Anti- “resist the urge to shalaye” campaign.

This article is not supposed to follow any literature structure or grammatical perfection in writing.

— This is a message.

— This is a Voice.

For the benefit of those who don’t know what the word “Shalaye” means, it is a Yoruba word which translates to mean “explain”.

“Refuse the urge to shalaye” should be one of the wrongest campaign we have had in this woke generation. Birthed nothing but depression, pressure, suicidal thoughts, suicide itself, death and a whole lot more. While the foolish think they are wise by not explaining briefly and not ambiguously, the weak in mind and emotions have had to suffer for this. The scornful and clot chasers have pushed many to their grave in a bid to entertain their social networks and gain attention from a dying blind woke generation.

Am I pissed writing this? Yes!

I refuse to entertain my eyes constantly with sad news of promising youths committing suicide because the world like only to hear shameful secrets of people now opened.

  • To the young girl that drank snipper because her boyfriend broke up with her would have been alive by now if she had “shalaye” to someone about how she felt.
  • The young man who was in his final levels in an higher institution that committed suicide because his babe left him for a better prospect would have been alive if he had “shalaye” to a counselor or a close friend.
  • The young man Izu who committed suicide because he was wrongly accused of rape and all the world could do was follow an online statement instead of following legal steps to justice.
  • The youths dying daily on the inside of them because they think not “shalaying” the cause of a misunderstanding between them and some persons is wisdom and preferred instead of speaking up.
  • To the young child today learning the wrong culture and picking up dying traits because uncle or aunty says they should not “shalaye” to anyone about their secrets.
  • To the person dying of addiction(s) because if he shalaye to anyone, his reputation would diminish instead. Instead of receiving help, he receives a wide range of notification from the world all because he spoke to just one person. 🤦🏽‍♂️
  • To the girl child that had to deal with child abuse and sexual abuse from neighbors, uncle’s, Aunty’s, shameless adults, lecturers, so-called-holy men would have had a better perspective of life if she had an opportunity to “shalaye”.

I can continue to give you all the example and possible situations I have read and heard from my birth till date. It’s saddening to see all of it. The world wasn’t meant to be this cruel, selfish, complicated and filled with evil people. I don’t subscribe to the fact that they are spiritually haunted. I believe rather that it is the culture many have been built into. What they have seen from their birth. What they have been hearing. What they have been taught. Like racism, it wasn’t born together with the innocent babies, but rather taught.

Social Media Is Not A Legal Court.

I can’t say it more than this.

Knowing fully well that our legal system itself is not a reliable system for justice, the use of social media is still not any option. There are still honourable lawyers and activist who can relay your matters appropriately to legal authorities.

I have no story to tell on this but once again, social media na cruise. We have the fake and real life up there.

SILENCE

Silence never caused a change!

Read that again and again.

Many have been caged in with a lot on their minds. Unable to share their thoughts and explanations, the gates of their cage got thicker and thicker. The darkness in their cage overwhelmed light until there was no space for light to shine through. Enveloped in their darkest times and no hands came through also to shred the thickness withholding them from true happiness. Depression, suicidal thoughts, Death!

  • The world wasn’t created by silence.

“…and God said, let there be ….”

  • Your parent didn’t come to be by silence.
  • Political seats aren’t occupied by silence.
  • Churches will say a prayerless fellow is in danger of every attack.

MY FRIENDS, SPEAK UP AND SPEAK OUT. SHALAYE TODAY AND SAVE YOUR LIFE.

Till I find the time to write again to you, I remain yours always, Solanke Olamilekan. ❣️🌺
